There’s been a recent controversy involving Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The issue started when Senator Natasha accused the Senate President of sexual harassment and abuse of office. However, the Nigerian Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions dismissed her petition due to ignorance of Senate rules, procedural violations, and legal constraints.

As a result, the Senate suspended Senator Natasha for six months, effective from March 6, over her conduct in the chamber. During this period, her salary and staff will be halted, and she’ll be barred from representing herself as a senator locally or internationally.²

It’s worth noting that Senator Natasha has taken her case to the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations (UN), seeking further action. This development has sparked a lot of debate and attention, especially with the recent celebration of International Women’s Day.
