Ours is a federal system of government….. “A federal system of government is a system that divides up power between a strong national government and smaller local government”. This system of government is best used in large countries, where there are diverse group of people with different needs but are united with a common culture which binds them together.

In the United States for instance, the Constitution created the federal system by limiting the activities of the national government to a few areas, such as collecting taxes, providing for defense, borrowing money on credit, regulating commerce, creating a currency, establishing post offices and post roads, granting patents, creating lower courts, and declaring war. The 10th amendment of the Constitution on the other hand, gave all other powers to the states. As a result, any specific power not given to the Federal government is a power of the state government.

Benefits of Restructuring Nigeria For Nigerians.

Guardian editorial opines that the 36 federating will be allowed to exploit all the natural endowments in their states, develop state policies based on priorities and pay their workers according to what they can afford.

Imo state can go to Oyo, invest in their mineral resources, employ the citizens  of Oyo State  and pay taxes to the state. This will bring about balance opportunity to exploit the resources available in all the states and of course development to the nation at large.

But the center will become week, no much money to loot.

I am for restructuring. Certainly it will speed up development in the country naction wide. But my fear is that massive corruption may move to the states.structures have to be put in place to checkmate this.
